Island of Haiti [Search Phrase: dirt cookies]
In the four square miles of Citi Solei hunger stalks everyone. People are so hungry they buy and eat cookies made of mud, shortening and salt. They will eat anything to fill the painful void of their empty stomachs.Article/Source: http://thefaceofhunger.stophungernow.org/2008/02/27/dirt-cookies/In 1925, Haiti was lush, with 60% of its original forest covering the lands and mountainous regions. Since then, the population has cut down all but an estimated 2% of its original forest cover, and in the process has destroyed fertile farmland soils, contributing to desertification.[1] Erosion has been severe in the mountainous areas. Most Haitian logging is done to produce charcoal, the country's chief source of fuel. Article/Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haiti Wikipedia articles subject to later edits.
The atmosphere in Kenya and Chad right now is so volatile that thousands are fleeing or have fled their homes in fear. Clinics in Kenya have run out of medicines and supplies, and people with serious wounds are moving from village to village in a desperate attempt to find treatment. In Chad, the current situation is too intense for relatives and relief workers to gather the dead and witnesses talk of bodies lying in the streets. In these countries, the most important thing is staying alive. Help refugees and displaced peoples survive.
These homeless children, women, and men turn to ADRA for hope, care, and support. And I turn to you, one of our faithful, compassionate supporters. You enable us to be in the midst of the desperate situations unfolding in Africa.
These conflicts have the potential for far-reaching impact. Already in Kenya, more than 1,000 individuals have lost their lives, and more than 300,000 are displaced within the country. In Chad, more than 1,000 people are wounded, and more than 200,000 have fled the capital.
Please pray for these victims, whose only focus now is survival. Pray for ADRA and our workers as we seek to be the hands and feet of Jesus, meeting the physical needs of these desperate people, and in doing so, spreading the hope of a brighter tomorrow.

Desmond Doss, young Seventh-day Adventist who refused to bear arms... was responsible for one of the greatest acts of heroism
by a single person in combat. The film: "The Conscientious Objector" Desmond Doss received the Congressional Medal of Honor in 1945. Read Movie Review! Desmond Doss refused to kill, or carry a weapon into combat, because of his personal beliefs as a Seventh-day Adventist. He thus became a medic, and by serving in the Pacific theatre of World War II helped his country by saving the lives of his comrades, while also adhering to his religious convictions.
His Medal of Honor was earned by the risks he took to save the lives of many comrades.

Behold, the days come, says the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land,
not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it. Amos 8:11-12 Famine of the Word Internet News...

by Tula Connell, Feb 9, 2007
Monday, members of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) will rally in Washington, D.C., to protest the latest round of negotiations for a U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement. The noon demo at the Washington Court Hotel, where the trade negotiations will be held, is the latest in a series of protests, from Seattle to Seoul, involving U.S. and South Korean trade unionists and allies against yet another bad trade deal skewed in favor of Big Business at the expense of workers. The KCTU will be joined by union members in the D.C. area.
The Bush administration is pushing hard to complete negotiations on a trade deal with South Korea before its “Fast Track” authority expires June 30. Fast Track, also known as Trade Promotion Authority, was narrowly passed by the Republican Congress in 2002. The law allows the president to negotiate trade deals but prevents Congress from improving or rejecting harmful provisions by allowing only "yes" or "no" votes on such trade packages. Working families strongly opposed the 2002 legislation and the AFL-CIO union movement recently has joined in coalition with other fair trade activists to battle against unfair trade deals, including trade promotion authority.

Christians Will 'Disappear' in an Independent Kosovo, Bishop Warns
By Nathan Burchfiel CNSNews.com Staff Writer February 12, 2007
(CNSNews.com) - A United Nations push for Kosovo statehood will lead to the destruction of the minority Kosovar Serbs in the region, a Serbian Orthodox bishop warned here, urging the international community to reject the plans. Kosovo is an autonomous province in Serbia with a population of about two million, most of whom are ethnic Albanian and Muslim. Eight years ago, NATO launched a military air campaign against Serbia to prevent atrocities against Kosovar Albanians.
The U.N., which has governed the province since the war, is in talks to recognize it as a self-governing state, but opponents worry it will lead to independence and could spell destruction for the minority Christian Serb community.
Dr. Artemije Radosavljevic, the bishop of Raska-Prizren and Kosovo-Metohija, who has long been critical of plans for Kosovo's independence, warned Friday that Christians would be wiped out of the region under a completely independent regime.

Heath, Ohio 43056 USA
"Finding The Curse, Exposing The Wound"
"Confession, The Way Out"
"Community, The Only Option"
"Preparing For The End Of The World"
Clar will teach from her own personal journey. Her unpacking of Jesus’ directives for our lives is practical, and easily understood. You will be challenged to really think, feel and come to terms with who you really are, what you really care about and how powerful Jesus' love for you is!
"You deserve to experience all the goodness of Jesus in your life today---that is your birthright. A friend pointed out to me that there are two selves in my life--the real me, and the false me. I’ve made a decision to be the real me today. The me that matters to God and can do all things and has enough love inside to manage any situation with grace. It’s our decision."
Clar was born in the Northwest United States, but at the age of four went to Africa with her missionary parents. She grew up in Zambia and Zimbabwe, learning at an early age how God works in amazing ways when people are open to His leading.
After graduating from Andrews University with a B.S. in communications, Clar began to sense a strong call to ministry, and in 1994 she entered the seminary with a passion to help believers in their personal relationships and the personal calling on their lives. For the past almost nine years she has pastored in the Oregon Conference, and again, as in her childhood, had countless opportunities to witness God’s power through prayer and service.
In the fall of 2005, Clar transitioned out of pastoring to focus on developing her writing and musical gifts. Her whole-hearted desire, is to leverage all her time and talents to bring renewal to the local church by casting vision and preparing people to lead.

The GOP Values Voters Presidential Debate
It's time the candidates answer questions from the largest voting block in America: the values voters. Yes, the values voters.
A letter of invitation was sent June 4, 2007 from national pro-family leaders to both the Republican and Democrats running for president. While it seems everyone is clamoring for the same date, Sept. 17,2007, the good news is that seven out of 10 of the Republican candidates have already confirmed their attendance to speak on that date to the most essential constituency: the values voters.
So far, six Republicans (Huckabee, Brownback, Hunter, Paul, Tancredo, and Cox) have rightly chosen to attend the event where they will hear from the base of their party.

In response, 190 [23% of the crowd] came forward at the conclusion of the event publicly deciding in front of their peers to follow Jesus. Iranian Union Leader Kidnapped
The AFL-CIO Solidarity Center reports that Mansour Osanloo, president of the Tehran and Suburbs Bus Drivers Union (Vahed), was kidnapped by what appears to be Iranian security forces—and urges us all to take action to demand his release.
The AFL-CIO Solidarity Center joins the global labor movement in a solidarity campaign to release the kidnapped union leader. On July 10, plainclothes assailants kidnapped Osanloo, president of the Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs (Vahed) Bus Co.
(Take action now by sending a protest letter or signing a petition to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad demanding that Osanloo be released unharmed immediately.)
Osanloo had just returned from the annual meetings of the International Transport Workers’ Federation in London and the International Trade Union Confederation in Brussels, where his speeches about the struggles of the Iranian labor movement received standing ovations. Speaking to a cheering crowd, Osanloo said:
I feel confident and empowered, as I know that the international trade union movement is behind us. The Iranian authorities know that, too. In return, we shall certainly be a part of the international trade union movement to promote peace, justice and a fair world for all.

State Drought Monitor, USA
In his proclamation, Riley cited four reasons to delve into prayer. He mentions that the livelihood and quality of life is decreasing for local citizens; the state’s largest industry is agriculture and is dependent on rain; low stream flows and lake levels have influenced recreation use, navigation, and power generation; and Alabamians have turned to God in times of need in the past and should do so again. "NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bob Riley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby encourage citizens of Alabama to pray daily for rain and proclaim June 30 – July 7, 2007 as Days of Prayer for Rain,” reads the proclamation. "During this time, I encourage all Alabamians to pray individually and within their houses of worship for sufficient rain."The final day of the prayer will also end on 7/7/07 - a significant day for many Christians around the nation Source:: http://www.christianpost.com/article/20070702/28270_Alabama_Governor_Proclaims_%5C%27Days_of_Prayer_for_Rain%5C%27.htm The National Day of Prayer is a day designated by the United States Congress as a day when all Americans regardless of faith are asked to come together and pray in their own way. ◙ Island Sinking...Far away in the Pacific Ocean lies a small island nation of Kiribati, located on the International Dateline. It's a place where you might want to enjoy a tropical vacation. But wait! Before you book your island getaway - I must tell you something about Kiribati. There's trouble in paradise. You see, when the tide comes in, the island sinks under water, all except for a strip of land about the width of a city block. And the problem is - the tide keeps slowly rising. By the middle of this century experts predict that due to global warming, Kiribati will be gone. Completely submerged under the sea. Already, some residents of Kiribati are moving out to other places such as New Zealand. They're one of the signs, I believe. Yet there are others who deny that the tide is rising and they're in any danger. They refuse to believe that they could be the last generation on Kiribati. Well friend, I know you see where I'm going with this. Like the sinking island of Kiribati, Planet Earth's last days are numbered. I believe signs all around us indicate we're living in the last days.

Is The Devil A Real Liar?
According to 2006 data from the Barna Research Group [click here or graphic to the left for more info],more than half of adults (55%) say that the devil, or Satan, is not a living being but is a symbol of evil.
Even more sobering is that 45% of born again Christians deny Satan's existence.
While slightly more than two-thirds of Catholics (68%) say the devil is non-existent and only a symbol of evil.
Jesus disagreed. He asked the religious people of his day "Why can't you understand one word I say? Here's why:
You can't handle it. You're from your father, the Devil, and all you want to do is please him.
He was a killer from the very start. He couldn't stand the truth because there wasn't a shred of truth in him.
When the Liar speaks, he makes it up out of his lying nature and fills the world with lies."

Evel Knievel Dares to Live for Christ
By Steven Little
CBN News
CWNews.com–-The motorcycle daredevil known as Evel Knievel risked his life countless times for the rush of adrenaline and the roar of the crowd. But nothing compares to his newest thrill: Jesus Christ.
Evel Knievel the motorcycle daredevil is now Robert Knievel, bold follower of Christ.
“I want to scream to the world I'm a born-again Christian,Knievel said.
He shared his amazing transformation at Robert Schuller's Crystal Cathedral on Palm Sunday.
“I know there's more to life than what I had,” he said. “I wrote a book saying I had a life better than anyone, better than any president. Hogwash, because I didn't have Jesus Christ in my life.”
Knievel says that many people have prayed for him over the years and sent letters asking about his belief in God.
“I don't know what in the world happened,” he said. “I don't if it was the power of the prayer or God himself. The power of God in Jesus just grabbed me. All of a sudden, I just believed in Jesus Christ. I did. I believed in him.”
His message moved the audience, as he shared from his heart.
“If you don't believe that Jesus Christ is what He says He is, you will surely die you'll die in your sins,” he said. “Believe me, you've got to believe. You've got to believe in Jesus Christ.” Afterward, Rev. Schuller prayed for Knievel and baptized him.
Schuller's son, Robert, also one of the church's pastors, then looked out into the crowd. So many were moved, they were sobbing. So he decided to drop his scripted remarks and give an alter call.Hundreds of worshippers streamed forward for prayer and baptism. Crystal Cathedral doesn't have exact numbers but reports between 500 and 800 people committed their lives to Jesus Christ that Sunday morning.

The American Medical Association has also lobbied legislators at both the state and federal level to make certain that antismoking initiatives at the state and county level actually receive some of the billions of dollars agreed upon in the settlements of major class-action lawsuits against the tobacco corporations. Dr. Duane Cady is particularly concerned that state governments strapped for new sources of income are using the antismoking settlement money for unfunded Medicaid mandates, and thus effectively deflecting the sums from their intended use. That frustrates him as a surgeon, a taxpayer, and a church member. Source/Story http://www.adventistreview.org/2005-1525/story1.html
At a panel discussion sponsored by the Museum of Television in Radio last week in New York, sparks flew over the controversial – and continued – detention of Associated Press photographer Bilal Hussein by the U.S. military. Joining the discussion – from the audience – was Tom Curley, the AP president and CEO. One of the panelists at the April 16 event (which has drawn no attention until now) was longtime Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman, who has long defended the detention of Hussein more than a year ago, despite protests by the AP and others who have asserted that the award-winning Iraqi photographer was not tied to insurgents — and pointed that no charges have been brought against him.
